Paying It Forward: From Refugee Kitchens to Unsheltered Neighbors

Price range: $25.00 through $1,000.00

Instead of seeing two vulnerable communities competing for help, we see two groups that can heal and lift each other up.

Many of our refugee chefs know the pain of losing a home, the displacement, and the deep uncertainty of finding safety. They know what it feels like to rely on the kindness of strangers to rebuild a life.

Description

Through our Paying it Forward outreach, our refugee chefs use their talents to cook hot, comforting meals and deliver them directly onto the streets to unsheltered Americans in need. It is a powerful pay-it-forward model: the very women who received help from this country are now using their passion to nourish their unhoused neighbors. Every meal served is a bridge of mutual understanding, respect, and shared humanity—proving that no matter where we come from, we are here to take care of one another.

Founder’s Note

“Years ago, I started a simple meal distribution program to help both refugees and the unhoused. At Fork in the Road Foundation, we are taking that founding vision deeper. Having spent years alongside our refugee chefs, I’ve seen how deeply they empathize with our unsheltered neighbors—they know what it means to be without a place to call home. This expanded model turns compassion into action, giving our chefs the platform to directly feed and uplift the community that welcomed them.” — Jessica Bueler, Executive Director & Founder
